Sydney, Australia – 19th December 2012 – As businesses wind down for the festive season and gear up for 2013, we take this opportunity to speak to Ryan Bloch, Elcom’s General Manager, to review the last 12 months and discuss Elcom’s plans for 2013.
Elcom is a leading provider of enterprise web content management solutions, with the elcomCMS as the platform for of over 1,000 successful site deployments around the world. Clients include Hyundai, Wine Selectors, Target Australia, Lego Club, Woolworths, Kia, VW, Austrade, Dulux, Orica Mining, Origin Energy, and Kaiser Permanente.
Elcom started 2012 with the release of version 7.6, which saw the introduction of a new Social layer within the elcomCMS. In June, they reached a key milestone by releasing a major version of elcomCMS, version 8.0. This release further enhanced the social features within the product, enriched the user experience with a new user interface and empowered users with added features. We are also excited to learn that version 8.1 has been released this month.
We ask Ryan a couple of questions about the evolution of elcomCMS.
There seems to be a big focus on ‘social’ in the development of elcomCMS, why is that?
Ryan: “Collaboration and community are rapidly growing trends. You can see this in the growing popularity of social networking sites and in industry discussions. We wanted to provide our clients with the tools and technology to enhance their user experience and be innovative with their strategies. The advantage of the modular architecture in the elcomCMS, enables the social features to be available to clients with websites, portals, intranets and LMS requirements.
While we have promoted social heavily, it’s also important to note that we’ve also enhanced elcomCMS in other areas too: mobile, intranets, online marketing, websites and training. We are passionate about elcomCMS being the one web platform that delivers many opportunities, on-premise or in the cloud.”
Why do you think elcomCMS is so popular amongst the mid-enterprise market?
Ryan: “elcomCMS is modular, flexible and powerfully simple. Time and time again, we are praised for how easy it is to use, implement, customize and configure. Organizations are always looking for cost-effective and resourceful ways to achieve their objectives. elcomCMS’ modular and well researched design means that we are perfect for this market. Anthony Milner [Elcom’s Product Director] and his team are doing a fantastic job ensuring the usability and evolution of elcomCMS.”
The year has been packed with new client wins, partner registrations, events - including both the Gartner Portals Content Collaboration summit in Florida, USA and Gartner IT Symposium in Queensland, Australia. A ramp up of marketing activities included a dedicated webinar series, elcomCMS User Conference, Elcom User Events and the launch of the new elcomcms.com website. Just prior to being recognised for the 3rd consecutive year in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management (WCM) 2012 report, Elcom announced the opening of its new office in San Francisco to support growing demand in the West Coast of the United States. Elcom is making great leaps and bounds in the market.
We are also excited by the growth and success of our Global Partner Network. We have continued to see developers embrace and love working with the elcomCMS. Our partners are growing their businesses and delivering leading web solutions for their clients on the elcomCMS.
Throughout 2012, we’ve seen some fantastic new sites based on the elcomCMS platform. Can you please highlight just a few client examples for us?
Ryan: “Web Accessibility compliance is critical to the success of many of our clients, we’ve assisted a number of clients with achieving WCAG 2.0 compliance through the elcomCMS. One such example is the Public Service Commission (PSC) for New South Wales. PSC were one of the first clients to achieve WCAG 2.0 compliance and to top it off they passed with Level AA compliance, well ahead of the deadline.
Another great client worth a mention is Hyundai. Hyundai have worked with us for a number of years but in 2012 they launched 100+ dealer portals on a multi-site deployment of elcomCMS; and launched their mobile site using the elcomCMS mobile module.
Onstream Tasmania, who recently presented at our User Conference in Sydney, is another interesting example of the flexibility of elcomCMS. Onstream have a number of websites and intranets managed through the elcomCMS. They also have a board portal for senior level executives. Executives can review board level meetings and download meeting packs to their iPad in readiness for meetings.
I could go on and on with several more great examples however, I suggest attending our webinars, user conferences, and forums to understand how passionate and positive our users are about elcomCMS.
And finally to wrap up the interview, Ryan shares what we can expect from Elcom in 2013.
Ryan: “Both John Anstey [Elcom’s founder and CEO] and I are incredibly proud of what the Elcom team have achieved throughout 2012. The demand for elcomCMS continues to increase, and our operations continue to expand. Throughout 2013, clients can expect further enhancements to elcomCMS particularly in the Intranet, Training Management, and integration to best of breed cloud applications; we will be welcoming new members to our team as we carry-on growing; and you will hear more noise from us in the market as our subject-matter experts strive to share more information through podcasts, webinars, whitepapers and blogs.
