one web platform, many opportunities

elcomCMS is one of the few truly multi-site enterprise content management systems on the market today.

Web sites, intranets, online training and extranets can all be run on a single instance of elcomCMS.

Key Features:

  • single database of assets, users and content
  • comprehensive security and granular permissions control
  • massively reduced administration
  • greatly increased user experience
  • Overview
  • elcomCMS's multi-site functionality allows companies to manage multiple sites on a single elcomCMS instance. This means that a single elcomCMS instance can be used to power your web site, company intranet, multiple micro-sites, online training site and more.

And because it is a single instance it means there's only one login required for each user. No more logging in and out of different systems, setting up new users and managing multiple backup scenarios - the elcomCMS multi-site solution solves this and more.

elcomCMS Multi-site Management CMS

Single User Base

Multi-site implementations allow all users to be managed within a single database, removing duplication and wasted administration time.

Permission groups allow granular control of all facets of content management including assets, style guides, access controls and publishing privileges.

Common Asset Repository

Content assets (articles, images, videos, documents, audio files) can be shared between sites, reducing duplication and improving search taxonomies. Assets are version controlled, ensuring common asset (eg a document used on both the web and intranet) changes are available on both destinations automatically (subject to workflow rules of course).

Search across all Sites

All sites on an elcomCMS instance can be configured to be included in enterprise-wise searches if desired. For example, web site and online training content can be included in search results returned on the company intranet. Each site can have it's search results setting configured individually, allowing maximum flexibility. For example, sub-sites (eg micro-sites) can be configured to have their content returned in main company site searches, but excluded from partner portals. And the main site can elect to have it's results excluded from searches on a sub-site, if required.

Search results can be extended to include additional content types eg events. elcomCMS Multi-site functionality allows events to be searched across sites too (eg an intranet search can be configured to include events from sub-sites. This granular control increases information retrieval efficiency across the enterprise.

User Experience Improvements

Users can seamlessly move between sites, inheriting appropriate permissions and document control. Since all sites use the same elcomCMS content management system, users have a common experience - updating an intranet policy uses the same tools as a web page article.

Benefits of elcomCMS Multi-Site

Common problems, solved by an elcomCMS multi-site implementation:

  • A new employee starts with your company - usual procedures require multiple accounts to be set up in the different system. A multi-site solution requires just one account to be created - permissions are then granted for each of the areas the employee has access to.

  • An employee leaves the company - usually this requires administrators to go through all the different systems the employee had accounts in. A multi-site solution has just one account - and can be immediately disabled for all sites.

  • An employ moves to a different department within the company - usually requiring changes to all systems. A multi-site solution simply requires moving the employee to a different permissions group - immediately grant access to new areas and removing previous permissions no longer required.

  • A staff member is in charge of updating internal intranet content as well as web site content - usually via different systems. A multi-site solution gives staff a common user interface experience, reducing training time and increasing user satisfaction.

Common Scenarios

Setting up permission groups allows easy control of staff permissions. Following are some example scenarios:

  • Marketing staff to have access to key company web site areas, full content control over micro-sites, and control of the marketing section on the corporate intranet, but no editing control on training content

  • HR staff have publishing privileges on all internal intranet policies and documents to do with staff employment, full control of HR training programs, but no editing access to web site or micro-site content

  • IT staff can manage documents and internal intranet content, but no editing access on company web site assets

  • Managers are granted permissions on content workflow and sign off, but no editing privileges on corporate style sheets

  • Sales teams can update and edit content on company extranet, internal intranet procedures and online training materials, but are excluded from editing company web site content

elcomCMS' multi-site capability provides incredible efficiencies for corporate content management. Administration is reduced, duplication is removed, user satisfaction is increased and overall company productivity improves.

Plus, attractive elcomCMS licensing ensures significant cost savings via a multi-site implementation.
